I recently received some manga pitt pens, textas that allow strokeless block colouring (though I’m not convinced), and decided to practise on some chibis (as they are small and require a very small range of colours). Here they are! Expect some female chibis in the near future }:P
It’s been a while since I last updated, hasn’t it? I’m not trying to make excuses but for those who are (slightly) interested, the reason is that my most recent project is to do the Chinese Zodiac as a form of Gijinka where they look as close to the animal without the help of headbands, tails, ears etc.. That and that I kept forgetting to upload what I had already done in August (August already!? Time sure flies by).
Now a little about Josh. Joshua Kiryu is (without spoilers) a fifteen-year-old smart alec, who’s insufferably snotty attitude only serves to widen the gulf between him and Neku but his knowledge, especially about the Game, does earn him some points. He is also Neku’s second partner.
Though Joshua is deep down lonely as his childhood was without many friends. You have to feel sorry for the guy. Besides, how can you not like the prissy kid?
I attempted at drawing him due to the massive success involving Sho Minamimoto. This one didn’t rise as high… But! Nevertheless, I had fun while doing so and that’s the important bit! Have a great day!
You’ve all seen and heard about the protagonist Neku, but what about the main antagonist? Meet the maths-crazy villain Sho Minamimoto!
But first, a little background (who doesn’t love a little background?).
At 18 (18!? He looks about twenty!), Sho is the youngest Game Master of the Reapers in Shibuya. Sho excels in all areas but one – cooperation. More of a mathematician than a battler, he can’t help but put in a mathematical term in every conversation he comes across to the point of obsession and perhaps mental instability.
But how can you not love him? Many a fan of TWEWY say that Sho Minamimoto was their favourite character and can’t help but quote him. The most famous quote being “So zetta slow” which is repeated several times in the game.
And here is a trivia fact (who doesn’t love a bit of trivia?):
Sho was dubbed “Pi-Face” by Neku and Beat and is called that on several occasions. Fittingly enough, Sho’s HP in his regular form is 3141 (the first four digits of Pi), and his Week Three form has 5926 HP (the next four digits of Pi). Sho is also called the “Grim Heaper” by Neku due to the garbage piles he builds during Week Two and the fact that he is a reaper.
Well, how about that? If you go here you can find plenty more on everyone’s favourite mathematician. Man, Sho makes maths fun.
Ever heard of the game ‘The World Ends with You’ (or TWEWY for short)? Yes? No? Maybe so? Even if you have/haven’t, I shall explain this fantastic game to you (I might even do a review – I say that a lot, don’t I?)
*Clears throat excessively* The World Ends with You, known in Japan as It’s a Wonderful World (すばらしきこのせかい, Subarashiki Kono Sekai) is an action role-playing game set in the shopping district of Shibuya, Tokyo.
As you start the game, after a little intro on the main character Neku Sakuraba, you are plunked straight into the game (no annoying intros here). You soon meet Shiki (the kinda love interest) and discover a bit about where you are and why you are there. The World Ends with You integrates Japanese youth culture such as fashion, food and mobile phones in a creative way. Some examples are ‘missions’ you have to complete, and battle advantages.
I’m not so sure over how this turned out. As I didn’t have the colours I had to make do with what I had so in that aspect I don’t like it. The lineart is okay I guess…
During the holidays I rented an amazing anime movie called Wolf Children that, to keep a long story short, is about a mum who falls in love with a wolf man and then has two children who have to decide if they want to be human or wolf and live in the suited world. It’s a cute film that left me pondering with emotion, and I’ll probably end up doing a review on it later (if I ever end up getting around to doing reviews, or comics for that matter).
I loved it so much, I drew one of the main characters: Ame. In this picture I drew him as a four year old and a ten/twelve year old (they didn’t specify how old he was later in the film). So in the picture, you’ll see the same person, but in different ages as he grows up in the movie.
And without further ado, here is cute, adorable, ‘mamma’s boy’ Ame!
The Phantom is an American adventure comic strip, where the Phantom is the 21st in a line of crimefighters that originated in 1536, when the father of British sailor Christopher Walker was killed during a pirate attack. Swearing an oath on the skull of his father’s murderer to fight evil, Christopher started the legacy of the Phantom that would be passed from father to son. And here’s the good bit, unlike other superheroes, the Phantom does not have any superpowers, and relies on his strength, intelligence, and fearsome reputation of being an immortal ghost to defeat his foes. How awesome is that? It’s like… Like… Like ARTEMIS FOWL!
Here’s some background info (if you’re interested). The 21st Phantom is married to Diana Palmer, whom he met while studying in the United States; they have two children, Kit and Heloise. Like all previous Phantoms, he lives in the ancient Skull Cave, and has a trained wolf, Devil, and a horse named Hero. Need I say anymore? You should so check it out…
Anyway, the reason why I drew this character is because it was my uncle’s birthday was coming up and I wanted to draw him something. Then it hit me: He. Loves. The. Phantom.
Problem. Solved. And so I embarked on a magical journey drawing a character (that I’ve never actually read about) and then colouring him in (well, the lettering of the logo) all at the middle of the night. Give me some credit, I started at 9pm.
Here is a dragon that’s been on my mind for some time. I called him ‘Phax’ originally but changed it to ‘Phaesri’ at the very last moment. Ever since I recieved my Minecraft account for my birthday, I fell in love with the name Phaesri (pronounced phase-ree, by the way) not because of Minecraft but because it sounded like a fantastic (as in fantasy-fantastic) name. I love it. I am also happy that I’m back into drawing dragons, better than ever!
As with my manga book, I decided I would draw a title page for my dragon book. In this case, instead of lettering with a character of mine, the title was to be a tribal tattoo. Many people hate tribal designs but I simply adore them. How they make a picture using only polygons. Amazing! Anyway, I’ve drawn this dragon a couple of times (on my shirt) and I thought to myself how good it would look on paper. Enjoy!
First of all, this was a request by Ellie-m-n-o-p. Second of all, I made up the name (meaning I didn’t base him off a real character). Thirdly…
I am quite proud of this one. I used next to nothing for references. I think the only referencing I did was the clothing (what detectives wear) as I haven’t (sadly) seen many detective shows :'(. There isn’t much to say but enjoy!
Though I am still waiting for my story edit – hint, hint Ellie…
My friend cathcasidk requested that I do this particular drawing. So, while I was at the farm I took it upon myself to do just that.
It all started in Science class…
I was doodling in my science book in science as I had already read ahead and was bored out of my skull. And so I doodled and doodled and doodled until cathcasidk looked over my shoulder and saw my epic drawing skills. She then started to draw in her diary and then tapped my shoulder repetitively. With one last look from my amazing drawing of a disconfigured dog, I looked up to see what my friend wanted.
(cathcasidk) :Teacher’s coming
(la moi): *nods vacantly* Uh huh
(teacher): …And the speed of light is very fast, unlike ‘s brain… (she says while bonking my head with a rather heavy textbook)
: *momentarily looks up, then back to drawing, then again back to teacher* Oh
: Yeah
And so I continued to draw in my book, having not learned my lesson from the teacher. cathcasidk continuously poked my shoulder. I continuously poked her shoulder back.
: What? : Draw this *thrusts a picture of a girl with her back to me holding up her dress, that she drew*
: I, uh, okay?
: Good
: Good?
*Bell rings*
Travel two weeks into the future
Ima gonna draw this thing!
Travel about 2 hours
Done! Now to wait for the end of the week so I can scan, plus a few days for me to actually get around to wring this post
Travel to now
Yay! Done!
NOTE: This is not in any way an exact recount. I just made up the jist of it to make it sound good. I also forgot what actually happened as that was the second last week of school and I don’t tend to remember boring, unnecessary things like that just so I can write about it.
And let’s be clear, I actually do pay attention in class and my teacher isn’t nearly as bad as that. It was all for the story. The only thing that was true was the request (and not even in that way).
